Sepia Saturday - Grandma's Raspberry Garden

It's been a while since I have participated in a Sepia Saturday, but I was able to sneak one in.  It took me a while to figure out which photo to use then I remembered grandma Smedley's raspberry garden.

Me, sister, and grandma Piggott

Boy do I love raspberries. Especially grandma's home grown ones. Not only did I love them with milk and sugar, but there's nothing like grandma's canned raspberries.  Sometimes she would let us pick them. And then there were the times I picked them and they went straight into my mouth.  I sure would love to have a bowl right now.

You're probably wondering why we were all dressed up. It was a Sunday so we just got back from church.  The upside down date on the top tells me that my baby brother was blessed that day.  That would also explain why grandma Piggott was at grandma Smedley's.

I kind of liked the wagon wheels too.  Would love to have them in my yard now.  I wonder what ever happened to them.

  3. A bowl of raspberries would be delicious right now! I like the wagon wheels too -- were they a fence around the raspberries?

    1. Yes. The wagon wheels were a pretty cool looking fence. I'm trying to remember if there were more than five of the wheels. The whole garden isn't in the shot.

  4. Raspberries are my wife's favourite fruit. I'd love a couple of those wagon wheels for my garden. There used to be a chocolate biscuit in the UK called a wagon wheel but I've not seen any for a while - they were delicious too.
    Three great pictures.

  6. We had just one wagon wheel in our yard. Made me smile to see those. And the thought of a raspberry garden is so mouthwatering. I can only imagine how fun that must have been for you as kids.

  7. I would love to be able to pick raspberries and just pop them in my mouth. When I was young, I used to see lots of wagon wheels. I assume most of them ended up falling apart from being exposed to the weather.

  8. Lovely photos, Leslie Ann :-) We used to go to a cousin's farm in Perthshire for a few days at "berry-picking time" - I think we ate more than we handed over. And there was plenty raspberry jam made when we got home :-)
